Richmond County deputies charge man with soliciting teen

ROCKINGHAM — A Richmond County man is accused of soliciting a teeanger for sex online.

Investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office have charged 54-year-old Ralph Lawrence Grant, of Rockingham in connection to a report “claiming he had inappropriate contact with a 14-year-old juvenile,” according to a press release issued May 20.

Grant was arrested Thursday, May 16 and is charged with one felony count each of soliciting a child by computer and taking indecent liberties with a child.

(Note: As of the afternoon of May 20, the latter charge was not yet reflected in online court records.)

According to the sheriff’s office, Grant was initially booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $50,000 secured bond. However, he did not appear in online jail records May 20. He is scheduled to appear in court May 30.

Records show Grant has no other pending charges or prior convictions in North Carolina.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
