ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County Hospice has announced a change of plans for its annual Salute to Veterans event scheduled for Friday.
Hospice staffers announced in a video Thursday that the formal program will be canceled due to the threat of rain in the forecast.
The National Weather Service is predicting showers and possible thunderstorms until 3 p.m.
However, veterans will still be able to pick up a free lunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
“From all of us at Richmond County Hospice to our veterans, it is an honor to serve you in this small way to thank you for your courage, sacrifices and your service to our nation,” Jessica Mims said in the video.
Dobbins Heights will still have its program at 11 a.m. at the town’s community center.
Saturday is expected to remain clear for the annual Veterans Day program at Richmond County Veterans Memorial Park, across from VFW Post 4203 in Rockingham, starting at 11 a.m.
The annual Veterans Day Parade will be on Main Street in Hamlet, starting with a parachute demonstration by the All Veteran Jump Team at 2 p.m. on Vance Street near the VA Clinic.
The parade itself will start at 2:15 p.m., followed by a closing ceremony at 3 p.m. in Main Street Park and a concert by Mark McKinney and Company. There will also be a Kids Zone and food trucks on site.
On Saturday, Nov. 14, there will be a parade and special program honoring veterans at the Norman Field of Honor. The parade is scheduled to start at 11 a.m., with the program following at 11:30 a.m.
