ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has charged one of its own for allegedly sneaking drugs into the jail for detainees.

Sheriff James Clemmons says 27-year-old Brandon Lee Fields was bringing in suspected controlled substances from both the Schedule I and Schedule III lists.

Fields is charged with one count each of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule I controlled substance; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance; possession of a Schedule I controlled substance; providing contraband to an inmate; and possession of a controlled substance on jail premises.

Sheriff James Clemmons said Fields is no longer employed with the sheriff’s office.

The investigation is ongoing.

Fields is being held under a $100,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 3.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
