ROCKINGHAM — A man with a history of theft and other charges is accused of stealing beer from several gas stations.

According to one arrest warrant, 46-year-old Terry Levone Watkins, of County Home Road, stole two 24-packs of Busch Light from the Refuel station on U.S. 74 Business in Rockingham on Aug. 12.

An investigator with the Rockingham Police Department charged him with one count of misdemeanor larceny and a felony count of habitual larceny, citing at least four convictions of misdemeanor larceny within the previous three months.

Another warrant alleges that Watkins stole a 24-pack of Michelob Ultra from the Circle K station on U.S. 1 on Sept. 14 and attempted to evade arrest by running from a deputy with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office who was investigating the theft.

In that case, Watkins was charged with misdemeanor larceny, second-degree trespassing, and resisting a public officer.

Richmond County Jail records show Watkins is being held on a $25,000 secured bond on those charges, as well as a $1,000 cash bond for child support. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 25 on the criminal charges.

Court records show Watkins was also served with a criminal summons charging him with misdemeanor larceny after he allegedly stole clothes and a laptop from another man in July.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Watkins has the following prior convictions:

1998 - assault

2004 - misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor breaking and entering

2006 - common law robbery, second-degree burglary

2008 - second-degree burglary (probation revoked on 2006 convictions, served nearly 15 months)

2018 - attempted second-degree kidnapping (served 16 months)

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
