ROCKINGHAM — A Richmond County man with multiple charges in two states dating back more than five years was apprehended this week.
Records show that 37-year-old Thaao Tohave Short, of Dobbins Heights, was arrested June 15 on a fugitive warrant from South Carolina, as well as multiple outstanding warrants in Richmond County.
According to South Carolina Court records, Short was charged June 6, 2019 in Marlboro County on two counts of attempted murder, as well as first-degree burglary and criminal conspiracy.
Short failed to appear in court in July of 2021, records show, and was indicted in 2023.
In May of 2021, court records show a woman on Cauthen Drive filed criminal complaints against Short for alleged actions on two consecutive days.
One warrant was issued May 30, charging Short with two counts of assault on a female and one count of misdemeanor breaking and entering. The second warrant, issued May 31, was for charges of communicating threats and stalking.
Another woman on Cauthen Drive filed a complaint against Short and a criminal summons was issued Oct. 19, 2022, charging him with communicating threats.
On Sept. 29, 2023, investigators with the Rockingham Police Department obtained warrants charging Short with: six counts of obtaining property by false pretenses; six counts of identity theft; two counts of financial card theft; two counts of possession of stolen goods or property; and two counts of misdemeanor larceny.
The Hamlet Police Department charged Short with misdemeanor larceny on Nov. 13, 2024.

Short is being held on a combined $99,000 secured bond, and without bond on the extradition case. His Richmond County court dates are slated for June 29 and July 9 and 10.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Short has the following prior convictions:
2006 - simple assault, resisting a public officer
2007 - misdemeanor larceny
2008 - shoplifting; two counts of resisting a public officer
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
