MONROE — A Richmond County man is one of two recently charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office, accused of being a child predator.
Craig Mansfield Grey, 65, of Rockingham, allegedly made arrangements to meet a female minor, “following conversations in which he described the sexual acts he intended to commit,” according to a July 17 Facebook post by the UCSO.
(NOTE: The defendants surname was misspelled as "Gray" in the Facebook post.)
The offense date is listed as June 18 and the child is under the age of 16, according to the warrant, which was issued June 27.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and N.C. State Bureau of Investigation reportedly worked with the UCSO to apprehend the defendant.
Grey was arrested the same day the warrant was issued and charged with one felony count of solicitation of a child by a computer. He was given a $10,000 secured bond and has been released on bail that day.
Robert Neuenschwander, of Ohio, was charged with two counts of solicitation of a child by computer and is being held pending extradition to North Carolina. He also faces several charges in Ohio.
“These arrests represent two more examples of the ongoing work being conducted by the UCSO’s Criminal Investigations Bureau to combat the exploitation of children,” reads the Facebook post. “These cases require countless hours of investigation, digital forensics, interagency coordination, and determination from detectives and analysts alike.”
Grey appears to have no prior convictions in the state.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
