A Richmond County native is in the running to be featured in Entrepreneur Magazine.

Carricia Simpson was recently selected as a top 10 finalist for Colossal's Entrepreneur of Impact.

According to a press release, the competition “connects emerging entrepreneurs with industry leaders, exclusive learning opportunities, and the opportunity to gain exposure on a national level.”

The competition is also raising awareness and support for GENYOUth, “a mission-driven organization dedicated to helping students thrive by increasing access to healthy school meals and physical activity programs in schools nationwide.”

The winner of the contest will appear in a two-page advertorial in Entrepreneur Magazine, receive a one-on-one mentoring session with FUBU founder and “Shark Tank” investor Daymond John, and take home $25,000.

In a questionnaire for the contest, Simpson said she would use the winnings to “expand EXcellence EDucation Strategy Group’s capacity to serve schools, churches, and community organizations.”

“The funding would support curriculum development, digital resources, and outreach that equips families and leaders,” Simpson continued. “This investment accelerates our mission to help communities walk in faith, embrace growth, and reach their highest potential.”

Simpson is an educator who previously worked with the Department of Defense. She currently lives in Cumberland County. Simpson has recently written several posts published by the Richmond Observer.

She said in the questionnaire that her inspiration comes from “the generations of strong women in my family who modeled resilience, faith, and service.”

“Their example taught me that leadership is not about titles but about impact,” Simpson said. “I am also inspired by every child, educator, and community member who deserves access to excellence. Their stories fuel my commitment to build solutions that uplift, empower, and transform.”

This is the second year of the contest. Last year’s winner was Madiha Chan of Just B Cosmetics.

Simpson is currently ranked as No. 6.

Voting for the top five ends at 7 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time (10 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time) on Thursday, April 23.
