ROCKINGHAM — A man and woman are facing drug charges, accused of meth trafficking.
According to arrest warrants, 44-year old Silena Alta Luther of Hamlet and 48-year-old Byron Christopher Campbell of East Rockingham at 58 grams (2.045 ounces) of suspected methamphetamine in a 2007 Toyota Yaris on Sept. 2.
Campbell, a convicted felon, also allegedly had a Mossberg .410 pump-action shotgun.
Both were charged with one felony count each of trafficking in methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance.
Campbell also faces an additional charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.
They were arrested and booked into the Richmond County Jail. Luther is being held on a $125,000 secured bond; Campbell is being held on a $150,000 secured bond. They are scheduled to appear in court Sept. 10.
Online court records show Campbell had a court appearance Friday, Sept. 4 on a charge of misdemeanor larceny.
Campbell also has several traffic violations in Richmond, Robeson and Union counties, including six citations for driving with a revoked license.
Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Campbell’s first conviction was in 1992 for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. He was given probation, which was revoked two years later when he was convicted of driving with a revoked license. He spent nearly 14 months behind bars.
Luther also has a criminal record.
She was first convicted in 2000 on 11 misdemeanor counts of writing worthless checks and one count of driving while impaired.
In 2013, Luther was convicted of DWI and driving with a revoked license in Moore County.
She was convicted of felony breaking and entering in Anson County in January 2019. Although given probation, that was revoked the following May when she was convicted of breaking and entering and fleeing to elude arrest in Richmond County, leading to a four-month incarceration.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
