ROCKINGHAM — A man and woman are facing drug charges after allegedly being caught with fentanyl.

According to warrants, 38-year-old Samuel Thomas Callahan and 27-year-old Jasmine Sky Batton, both of the same address on Cardinal Drive, were found in possession of an unspecified quantity of fentanyl on June 25.

The pair were also allegedly found with cut straws, digital scales and a rolled-up dollar bill with residue.

Callahan and Batton were each charged with possession of fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia. Callahan is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a $25,000 secured bond, while Batton is being held without bond due to a pending probation violation.

Records show Batton was convicted in 2024 of negligent child abuse with serious physical injury and given a 24-month suspended sentence.

Batton was charged Jan. 30 with a probation violation. Documents allege that Batton: failed to reside at an approved residence; twice tested positive for fentanyl; failed to check in with a probation officer; failed to make payments toward court costs; failed to obtain substance abuse assessment and complete court-ordered treatment; failed to provide court-ordered DNA sample.

She was arrested on April 20.

Both Batton and Callahan are scheduled to appear in court July 2 on the fentanyl and paraphernalia charges. Batton’s next appearance for the probation violation is June 29.

Online court records show Batton also has pending traffic citations, as well as a civil case brought by N.C. Foster Care.

Records show Callahan has multiple prior convictions:

2008 - assault by pointing a gun (Richmond)

2011 - felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of drug paraphernalia (Richmond)

2013 - felony larceny (Scotland); larceny after breaking and entering (Richmond)

2015 - driving while license revoked (Richmond)

2016 - driving while impaired (Richmond); breaking and entering vehicles (Onslow)

2021 - possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (Union)
