Richmond County probationer charged in knife assault

ROCKINGHAM — A man previously convicted in a violent assault is now charged in another.

According to an arrest warrant issued May 6, 22-year-old Roger Hunter Braswell assaulted another man with a knife “or cutting object” that same day.

Braswell, who is still on probation, was arrested and charged with a single count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a $100,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 22.

He was also given a $5,000 secured bond for a probation violation.

Online court records show Braswell was charged in September with three counts of communicating threats and one count of second-degree trespassing. That case is still pending.

Records show an order for arrest was issued for failure to appear in court for that case on Dec. 6, but it was recalled. However, records show he failed to appear Feb. 6 and March 16.

Braswell was convicted in February 2024 on charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and discharging a firearm into an occupied property. He was given a 24-month suspended sentence in that case.

However, court records show Braswell violated probation by not reporting to the probation office and not paying restitution. Records show he did not appear in court for the violation on April 7 and an order for arrest was issued April 11.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
