ROCKINGHAM — A man accused of leading law enforcement on a chase through two states has been extradited back to Richmond County and is facing kidnapping charges.
Jail records show 30-year-old Keith Tyrone Allred Jr., of Rockingham, was booked just before 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop Allred on Friday, Feb. 7, but the defendant refused. At the time, the Community Impact Team was reportedly investigating drug activity in the area.
Court records show Allred had an order for arrest issued Oct. 31 for failing to appear in court on charges of fleeing to elude arrest, assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, felony possession of cocaine, and injury to personal property from an incident on Oct. 15.
Warrants allege that during the Feb. 7 pursuit, Allred — who has a revoked license — drove in excess of 15 mph above the posted speed limit on Stokes Road and 100 mph while leading deputies down Old Cheraw Highway, rolling through stop signs and passing in no-passing zones.
According to the sheriff’s office, there were two female passengers in the car who reportedly pleaded with Allred to stop so they could get out. One of them reportedly jumped from the car in Bennettsville, South Carolina, and was treated for minor injuries.
The chase reportedly ended when the car “struck a roadside curb, causing damage to the car and making it inoperable.”
Investigators say Allred tried to flee on foot but was caught by RCSO deputies and officers from Marlboro County. (Note: According to the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office, a Bennettsville Police officer was involved in the apprehension.)
The second female passenger was not injured, according to RCSO.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is reportedly investigating the crash.
Allred is charged in Richmond County with: two counts of first-degree kidnapping; fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle; three counts of failing to stop at a stop sign or flashing red light; speeding; aggressive driving; reckless driving with wanton disregard; driving with a revoked license; driving left of center; and having a fictitious or altered title, registration card or tag.
The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office has charged Allred with failing to stop for a blue light.
Allred is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 20 on the current charges and March 17 on the previous charges.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Allred has several prior convictions:
2012: common law robbery (conspiracy)
2015: felony larceny
2019: five counts of felony breaking and entering, obtaining property by false pretenses (Richmond County); felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and injury to real property (Scotland County)
2024: post-release revocation
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
