Richmond County School Board to hold public hearing on facility changes

Posted

HAMLET — The Richmond County Schools Board of Education will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 12, to gather community input on proposed changes to school facilities. The hearing will take place at 5 p.m. at the start of the November board meeting at the Richmond County Schools Central Office.

The current plan includes moving Richmond Ninth Grade Academy students and staff to Richmond Senior High School at the start of the 2025-2026 school year. An assessment of the maintenance needed to prepare the current NGA facility for Pre-K and elementary students will determine whether Monroe Avenue Elementary will relocate for the start of the 2025-2026 school year or the 2026-2027 school year.

“We are confident that these changes will benefit our schools and ensure a better use of resources across the district,” said Cory Satterfield, chairman of the Richmond County Board of Education. “We value feedback and want to hear from the community before we move forward in this process.”

Individuals who wish to speak during the public hearing must sign up for public comment at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the meeting. A full report detailing the proposed changes is available on the Richmond County Schools website at https://bit.ly/RCSfacilitychanges.
