HAMLET — From an early let-out to a late start.
Richmond County Schools announced classes, including at Richmond Early College High School, will be on a two-hour delay on Friday.
The students were released at 1 p.m. Thursday ahead of winter weather moving into the area.
Rain, which has been falling off an on for more than 24 hours, is expected to turn to a wintry mix between 5 and 8 p.m. before changing to light snow overnight, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecast models from the NWS show most of Richmond County will receive less than an inch of accumulation. However, the northern parts, including Derby and Norman, could see up to 2 inches. The high-side estimate has the county covered in up to 3 inches.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for Richmond and surrounding counties until 7 a.m. Friday.
Overnight lows are expected to dip below 30 degrees, with wind gusts of more than 20 mph, resulting in a wind chill of around 19 degrees early Friday morning.
An updated weather briefing is set to be released after 4 p.m.
