ROCKINGHAM — As temperatures and wintry precipitation continue to fall, precautions are being taken for Thursday.
The cities of Rockingham and Hamlet and Richmond County government have announced they will be on a two-hour delay.
As of this writing, there had been no notices posted by the towns of Hoffman, Ellerbe or Dobbins Heights. However, Ellerbe did close early on Wednesday due to the weather.
Richmond County Schools opted for a remote instructional day for students.
On Wednesday, rain switched over to a wintry mix, including a few snowflakes and appears to have switched over to sleet and freezing rain as temperatures drop below freezing.
Richmond County and much of central North Carolina remains under a winter weather advisory until 1 p.m. Thursday.
The latest forecast from the National Weather Service calls for a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow in the evening hours, with overnight lows dipping to 25 degrees. Less than a half inch of snow and ice accumulation is expected.
There is also a 20% chance of snow showers between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Thursday.
