ROCKINGHAM — A convicted sex offender is accused of not reporting his new address — for the second time in as many years.
Records show 33-year-old Michael Wayne Cox was booked into the Richmond County Jail on June 11, charged with failing to report a new address as a sex offender, as well as a charge of failure to appear on a felony.
Cox was convicted in 2016 on five counts of taking indecent liberties with a child four years prior, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.
The N.C. Sex Offender Registry shows Cox was 23 at the time of the crimes and the victim was 9 years old. He was given a minimum registration period of 10 years.
He was also previously convicted of failing to notify of a change of address in 2021 on a charge from the prior year, records show.
Cox is being held on a combined $55,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court June 30.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
