ROCKINGHAM — A local sex offender is accused of failing to register with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Records show 38-year-old Demetric Lamont Morgan, of Green Lake Road, was taken into custody Dec. 18, charged with a count of failure to register as a sex offender. The arrest warrant was issued Dec. 12.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Morgan was convicted in 2007 of taking indecent liberties with a child and second-degree kidnapping and given a suspended sentence.
The N.C. Sex Offender Registry shows the second charge as attempted felonious restraint against a minor, as well as another count of indecent liberties.
According to the Registry, the incident occurred in 2005 when Morgan was 18 and the victim was 13.
Since first registering, Morgan has had at least two violations.
He is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a $25,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 2.
Jail records show Morgan is also being held on a cash bond of $8,841.91 for child support. His court date in that case is Dec. 19.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
