Richmond County students set for remote learning Monday

HAMLET — Local students won’t have to go to school Monday — but it doesn’t mean they have the day off.

Richmond County Schools announced Sunday afternoon that the district “will transition to a remote instructional day for all students” for Jan. 26. Staff will operate on an optional remote work day.

“We will continue to monitor conditions across the district and will share an update regarding plans for Tuesday no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow,” Cameron Whitley, executive director of communications, said in an email.

All facitilies at Richmond Community College will be closed on Monday.

More freezing rain is expected on Sunday before transitioning to rain. However, temperatures are expected to drop slightly below freezing overnight. The overnight low into Tuesday morning is predicted to be in the lower teens.

The RO will have more winter storm updates as they become available.
