ROCKINGHAM — A woman is facing four felony charges after allegedly forging a check written to herself.
Tamara Lea Parker, 31, is accused of writing a forged check — from the reported victim’s State Employees Credit Union account — to herself for $390 and signing the reported victim’s name.
Parker then allegedly cashed the check.
According to an arrest warrant, the incident happened on April 30.
The case was investigated by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. The warrant was issued Oct. 1 and Parker was arrested Oct. 10.
Parker is charged with one felony count each of: forgery of instrument; forgery of endorsement; uttering a forged endorsement; and obtaining property by false pretenses.
She was booked into the Richmond County Jail where she is being held on a $5,000 secured bond. She was initially held without bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 23.
Online court records show Parker was out on bail for a charge of misdemeanor larceny.
Parker was issued a citation July 4 and failed to appear in court Sept. 5. An order for arrest was issued Sept. 19 and she posted bail later that day.
Records appear to show Parker has no prior convictions in North Carolina.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
