ROCKINGHAM — A local travel ball organization is looking to expand its current roster for the upcoming summer season.

The Richmond Rockies 13U travel baseball team, which started as a part of the C35 travel program based in Moore County in 2021, is in need of an additional player.

Coached by Craig Stewart, Gary Trexler and Landon Cowick, the Rockies branched out on their own last year because the majority of the players are from Richmond County. The team practices locally at Rockingham Middle School.

The trio of coaches brought back the Richmond Rockies name of a former travel baseball organization that was founded by Henry McDuffie.

A Richmond County native and longtime respected coach, McDuffie was a member of Richmond Senior High School’s 1974 state championship team.

“This is a great opportunity for a local young baseball player looking to learn and grow his game with a local, homegrown organization,” the team’s Facebook page posted.

Interested players cannot turn 15 years old before May 1, 2026.

In addition to being a grassroots organization, the Rockies have received “overwhelming support from our community, thus making us one of the most affordable travel ball organizations around.”

As the current 13U team, the Rockies have played 32 games and have a .672 winning percentage. Just this year, the team has won five tournament brackets.

For players interested in joining the program, the coaching staff can be reached via the team’s Facebook page.
