ROCKINGHAM — Rivalry week is being abbreviated with the varsity football match-up being moved up a day.

The historic rivalry game between Richmond Senior and Scotland high schools has been moved up to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27 at Pate Stadium.

The Raiders will be looking for their fourth consecutive victory over the Scots, finishing last year’s matchup with a score of 36-21. Richmond has won six of the last eight meetings.

Both teams are 0-1 heading into week two, with Richmond falling 27-13 to the Hoggard Vikings and Scotland losing 25-22 to the Asheboro Blue Comets on Aug. 20.

The JV game was previously moved to Wednesday, with kick-off set for 6:30 p.m. at Raider Stadium.

Athletic Director James Johnson said the home soccer match against Union Pines, originally slated for Thursday, will be made up at a later date.

Both the JV and varsity team bested the Scots 5-0 and 3-0, respectively, at home Monday evening.

The volleyball teams will also face off in Scotland tonight.

The Richmond varsity volleyball team earned a big 5-set road win against Mount Tabor in Winston-Salem on Tuesday.

The Lady Raiders won the first two sets 25-19, 25-19 before falling 15-25 and 22-25 in sets three and four respectively. Richmond regrouped and won 15-8 in set five to claim the match.

After falling 25-11 in its opening match at Mount Tabor High School, the Richmond junior varsity volleyball team recovered and played a much tighter set two battle with the Lady Spartans. Unfortunately, they came up just short on the wrong side of a 25-22 score, dropping the match 2-0.
