Richmond Senior finalizes new traffic plan

ROCKINGHAM — Richmond Senior High School has finalized the traffic plan for the start of the 2025–2026 school year.

The changes are  designed to improve safety and reduce congestion as more students and families arrive on campus with the addition of all  ninth-grade students.

Principal Joyce McRae said the school reviewed several options and sought guidance from law enforcement and traffic  engineers before finalizing the changes.

“We reviewed multiple traffic patterns and carefully considered how each would  affect traffic on and around campus,” McRae said. “This plan is the most practical for our school. It maintains a familiar pattern while creating a one-way flow to help keep traffic moving.”

The major change is that different groups will now enter and exit through separate gates. Here’s what parents and families  need to know:

  • Student drop-off and pick-up will enter through the Washington Street gate, use the front circle, and exit back onto  Washington Street.
  • Student Drivers will enter and exit through the gate on U.S. Highway 1.
  • The road between the gates will be closed to through traffic allowing a one-way flow on both sides of the campus.

“We know the first days will be an adjustment, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation,” she said. “We will  keep monitoring traffic patterns throughout the year and make changes if needed to maintain safety and efficiency.”
