Richmond Senior students deliver food and hope to Rescue Mission

ROCKINGHAM — On Friday, Dec. 5, students from Richmond Senior High School demonstrated the power of youth compassion by organizing a food drive and personally delivering hundreds of items to the Richmond County Rescue Mission’s community food pantry.

Their visit to the Place of Grace Campus not only supported a vital resource for those in recovery, it became a moment of deep connection and inspiration.

The students were welcomed by staff and residents of the mission’s “From the Street to Your Feet” program, which provides housing, recovery support, and vocational training to individuals overcoming addiction and homelessness. During the visit, Program Director Jorge Flores addressed the students with powerful words that left a lasting impact.

Flores said, “Listen, You guys are at a perfect stage in your life to use your noggins. Because listen, there's two types of people—smart ones and wise ones… The smart ones learn from their own experience, but the wise ones see others and say, 'I don't think I want to go that path. I already know the result.’ That's wisdom.”

Flores emphasized the significance of the students’ presence: “This place is at the heart of the madness …  this is who we're ministering to. And I applaud you guys and what you've done today. So thank you so much.”

Their donation will directly support the mission’s food program, which distributes thousands of meals monthly to the community.
