ROCKINGHAM — Richmond Senior’s Emely Valencia was the first to cross the finish line in the girls cross country meet Wednesday at Hinson Lake.
The meet included runners from Richmond, Jack Britt and Hoke County high schools.
Coming in at 22:45:50, Valencia shaved nearly two minutes off her time from a developmental meet at the lake two weeks earlier. Hoke and Overhills also participated in that run.
Not far behind was Jack Britt’s Abigail Meinhardt at 22:54:58 and Richmond’s Jazlyn Garcia finishing third at 23:19:48.
The Lady Raiders had two other runners finish in the top 10: Eve Samuel finished fifth at 24:15:21; and Mckenzie Smith came in ninth at 25:16:08.
Rounding out Richmond’s roster were: Janet Morales Zapata (13th) at 27:44:45; Alanna McBride (14th) at 28:05:90; Adryan Southall (17th) at 28:58:44; Hadley Bowdren (20th) at 31:41:95; and Nayala Madrigal (21st) at 38:51:51.
On the boys team, Ernesto Mendez was the fastest Raider, finishing 13th with a time of 22:28:31.
Hoke’s Josiah McCallum finished first at 18:02:50, followed by Jack Britt’s Isaac Holder Jr. at 19:32:75 and fellow Buck Noah Colon-Nieves at 19:59:06. They were the only three to finish in under 20 minutes. McCallum finished second in the developmental run at 18:41:67.

Richmond’s cross country teams also celebrated senior night, honoring Valencia, Crawford, Zapata and Makensey Puckett.
The Raiders will be competing at a meet this weekend in Charlotte.
