ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has filed several drug charges against a convicted felon.
According to an arrest warrant, 24-year-old Tajuwon Deandre Short, of Rockingham, was caught on Sept. 6 in possession of 6.75 grams of an unspecified opioid.
(NOTE: The current arrest warrant has his first and middle names spelled as “Ta-Juwon Deondra,” while jail records have his first name without a hyphen and his middle name spelled as “Deondre.” Previous court records also have his first name spelled as “Tajwon.”)
Short is also accused of having separate quantities of cocaine — 4.33 grams on one count and 17.24 grams on the other — as well as digital scales and plastic baggies.
He was arrested and charged with: two felony counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver cocaine; one felony count of trafficking in opium or heroin; and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Short was booked into the Richmond County Jail where he is being held on a $150,000 secured bond. He had his first court appearance on Sept. 8 and his next is scheduled for Sept. 18.
He appears to have no other pending criminal charges.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Short was convicted in 2023 of fleeing to elude arrest, common law robbery and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and was given probation.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
