ROCKINGHAM — A man and woman are facing child abuse charges after allegedly having kids around drug activity.

According to a Facebook post made last week, the Rockingham Police Department’s Vice/Narcotics Unit began conducting an investigation after receiving information about “illegal activity” at a Haywood Street home.

RPD detectives and the Tactical Response Unit, joined by the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, reportedly executed a search warrant at the home around 7:30 a.m. Aug. 21.

Police reportedly found 18 dosage units of suboxone, a half-ounce of marijuana, digital scales and sandwich bags.

Two firearms were also reportedly recovered during the search. According to the arrest warrant, at least one of the firearms was “unsecured in an accessible area to the child.”

The Richmond County Department of Social Services was called in to ensure the “safety and well-being” of the children, according to the department.

Police arrested 29-year-old Sierra Blaire Sadler and 31-year-old Christopher Thad High and charged each with: possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance; maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; possession of up to a half-ounce of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and three counts of misdemeanor child abuse.

Sadler and High are each being held in the Richmond County Jail on a $50,000 secured bond and both are scheduled to appear in court Sept. 4.

Neither Sadler nor High appear to have any other pending charges or past criminal convictions in North Carolina.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
