ROCKINGHAM — A woman on probation from a conviction last month is accused of stealing flowers from a local retailer.
According to warrants, 67-year-old Gerry Sanford Garrison, of County Home Road, stole flowers from Lowe’s Home Improvement three times within a week:
May 29 - two mandevillas
June 4 - four Gerbera daisies, two rose bushes
June 6 - two rose pink roses, two Easy Breezy roses
Warrants show the flowers have a combined value of $269.76.
Garrison was arrested Friday, June 6 and charged with three counts of misdemeanor larceny. She is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a $3,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 11.
On the same day, police charged 47-year-old David Michael Heaton, who is listed as homeless, with second-degree trespassing and misdemeanor larceny — also involving Lowe’s.
Heaton is accused of stealing a Pepsi, a dog leash, and flea and tick medicine — valued at $27.58 — from the retail store.
Police also reportedly found methamphetamine and a glass pipe on his person, charging him with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Heaton is being held on a combined $2,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 3 on the drug charges and July 11 on the larceny and trespassing charges.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Garrison was convicted May 2 on three charges of misdemeanor larceny and one county of shoplifting and is currently serving a 12-month suspended sentence.
Heaton has a scattered criminal history dating back nearly 30 years:
1995 - forgery
2009 - three counts of felony breaking and entering; larceny from the person
2010 - two counts of larceny from the person
2019 - common law robbery
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
