ROCKINGHAM — A local homeless man is facing multiple charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a young child several years ago.
According to an arrest warrant, 35-year-old Parrish Omar Harris performed sex acts with a child in December of 2019.
The reported victim was between the ages of 3 and 8 years old at the time, according to the warrant issued Aug. 27.
The case was investigated by the Rockingham Police Department.
Harris was arrested and charged with three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, and two counts each of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult and crime against nature.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail where he is being held on a $1.5 million secured bond. His first court appearance was Aug. 29 and his next court date is Sept. 4.
Online court records show Parrish has pending bond forfeiture cases.
Parrish pleaded guilty to misdemeanor larceny on July 11, court records show.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Parrish has a criminal history of misdemeanors dating back more than a decade.
In 2009, he was convicted of misdemeanor larceny, breaking and entering, and assault on a female. His probation was revoked the following year and Parrish was incarcerated for three months.
Parrish was convicted of assault and communicating threats in 2011.
His only felony conviction was in 2013 for speeding to elude arrest.
Records show Parrish was also convicted of assault on a female in both 2015 and 2022.
