ROCKINGHAM — A homeless man is accused of breaking into a building within the past week.
According to warrants, 28-year-old Travarous Earl Young broke into Unit 14 of 801 E. Broad Ave. in Rockingham at some point between May 5 and 11. He allegedly damaged the door, lock and casing, and stole a metal shopping cart.
Young was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 11:53 p.m. May 11, charged with one felony count each of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering, as well as a misdemeanor count of injury to real property.
Records show Young was also served with an order for arrest, which was issued after he allegedly failed to appear in court May 7 on a citation for misdemeanor breaking and entering. In that case, he allegedly broke into a building at nearby 708 E. Broad Ave. on April 19.
Young is being held on a combined $16,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 28 and June 17.
While Young has no prior convictions in North Carolina, it does appear he’s had previous arrests in Alabama and Mississippi. The outcome of those cases is unknown.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
