ROCKINGHAM — A man is being held without bond in the Richmond County Jail, charged in connection to the death of a small child.
Records show that 26-year-old Kevin Orlando Bowe was charged June 24 with a single felony count of negligent child abuse with serious bodily injury.
An arrest warrant alleges that Bowe was providing care to or supervision of a child under the age of 16 and committed a “grossly negligent omission …. which…showed a reckless disregard for human life, and resulted in the death of the child.”
Rockingham Police Chief George Gillenwater told the RO on June 25 that the case is still under investigation and more charges are pending.
The chief did say that the child was under a year old, but would not release any additional information while the investigation continues.
Bowe is scheduled to appear in court July 2.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Bowe was convicted in 2019 on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was initially given probation, which was revoked the following year, resulting in a five-month incarceration.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
