ROCKINGHAM — A man is facing more than a dozen misdemeanor and felony charges related to an alleged kidnapping over paperwork.
According to the Rockingham Police Department, officers responded to a home on Osborne Road near Hamlet around 2:07 a.m. in reference to an incident that started on Randolph Street in Rockingham.
Investigators reportedly learned that 28-year-old Isaiah Gilbert Cade “unlawfully” entered the home of his ex-girlfriend, where he is accused of strangling and threatening her and pointing a gun at her head.
Cade allegedly “made demands regarding his vehicle title.” The victim reportedly told him the title was at her sister’s home on Osborne Road.
Cade is accused of stealing the victim’s gun and forcing the victim into her vehicle and driving to the sister’s home. When the victim walked inside, the sister reportedly called 911 and Cade left in her vehicle.
Deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office reportedly spotted the vehicle on Osborne Road near the intersection with Seaboard Road and initiated a traffic stop, detaining Cade.
A search was performed on the vehicle, but no gun was found, according to RPD. Investigators reportedly later learned he had discarded the weapon during the pursuit with deputies.
Cade was taken to the department while detectives continued the investigation.
Around 9:20 a.m., K-9 Mick was used to search the area near the traffic stop and, within about 20 minutes, found a teal SCCY CPX-1 9mm handgun, which police say was confirmed as belonging to the victim.
Cade was arrested and charged with: two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon; attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon; larceny of a firearm; possession of a stolen firearm; larceny of a motor vehicle; possession of a stolen motor vehicle; first-degree burglary; second-degree kidnapping; assault by strangulation; assault with a deadly weapon; assault on a female; domestic criminal trespassing; injury to personal property; and communicating threats.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 3:29 p.m. on March 25 where he is being held without bond. Cade is scheduled to appear in court April 7.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Cade was convicted of assault on a female in 2020.
Court records show Cade plead guilty to domestic criminal trespass in 2023 but received a prayer for judgement. Several other charges — two counts of assault on a female and communicating threats — were dismissed in the case.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
