ROCKINGHAM - The Rockingham Police Department reports that 26 separate charges have been filed against a single individual. Levar Thaddeus Mitchell, 36, of Rockingham was arrested within a few hours of RPD receiving a report of a breaking and entering incident.
Mitchell has been charged with the following crimes:
5 counts of breaking and entering;
5 counts of larceny after breaking and entering;
3 counts of larceny of a firearm;
3 counts of possession of a firearm by a felon;
1 count of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance;
1 count of maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for the manufacture and/or sale of a controlled substance;
1 count of possession of stolen goods/property;
1 count of simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance;
5 counts of injury to personal property; and
1 count of obtaining property by false pretenses.
Levar Thaddeus Mitchell is currently being housed in the Richmond County Jail under a secured bond of $120,000 in relation to these charges.
These charges stem from the initial efforts of the RPD Patrol Division to follow up on a recent breaking and/or entering report call that came in on the night of Sunday, June 3rd.
The investigating shift was able to review surveillance footage and identify Mitchell as a suspect.
Follow up investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division revealed that Mitchell was responsible for at least 4 other residential and business break-ins in the Rockingham area.
The Rockingham Police Department is still investigating other reports of break-ins which could lead to further charges against Mitchell.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
