ROCKINGHAM — Police are investigating a mid-afternoon mugging that left the reported victim shoeless.
According to the Rockingham Police Department, a man was assaulted and knocked unconscious just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 at the Refuel No. 14 at the corner of Fayetteville Road and Long Drive.
Witnesses say they heard a thud and turned to see the suspect appearing to take the shoes — a pair of Nike Air Jordans — off the reported victim.
The victim, according to police, had swelling and bleeding to the right side of his face and didn’t know what happened.
In addition to his shoes, police say the victim was missing his wallet and money.
Investigators have not yet identified a suspect, however witnesses described the suspect’s vehicle as a red, older model Chevrolet Tracker with a white top.
