ROCKINGHAM — Police are investigating two shootings from Wednesday evening, one of which sent a teen to a hospital.

Investigators with the Rockingham Police Department say an 18-year-old male victim was shot in the head while sitting inside a vehicle parked in the area of Armistead Street around 6:15 p.m. March 30.

The driver of the vehicle drove the victim to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond and the victim was later transported to an undisclosed hospital where investigators say he is in critical condition.

The victim’s name has not yet been released. Investigators were unsure Thursday if the victim was still a student.

Police reportedly recovered numerous shell casings from an undisclosed caliber of firearm at the scene.

The second shooting occurred not far away on Hunter Circle.

Investigators say two people were sitting in one vehicle talking to others who were standing nearby when another vehicle pulled onto the road and an occupant fired several shots into the first vehicle.

No 911 call was ever made, according to investigators, but a Richmond County sheriff’s deputy was close by and heard the shots.

No one was injured and no shell casings were recovered.

Both shootings are still under investigation and no suspects have been identified in either case, according to police.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Rockingham Police Department at 910-895-2468 or Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.
