Rockingham VFW Auxiliary sending care packages to National Guard troops

ROCKINGHAM — National Guard soldiers serving overseas will soon be receiving care packages from VFW Post 4203 Auxiliary.

Auxiliary members, with help from the Fayetteville-based Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, on Saturday filled the 35 postal boxes with a variety of snacks, hand-drawn pictures from local students and “Thank You” cards collected and various veteran-related events.

The packages will be going to members of the 1o5th Engineer Battalion of the N.C. National Guard, based out of nearby Raeford.

Funding for the supplies came from the auxiliary’s annual Rockin’ for Veterans concert in November.

The seventh annual Rockin’ for Veterans is scheduled for Sept. 27 at the VFW, with local cover band Aftermath named as one of the bands set to perform.

The auxiliary is hosting its annual summer Kids Jam — featuring water slides and other activities — from noon-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 28.

Richmond County Aging Services is also hosting its annual Veterans Breakfast from 9-11 a.m. at Cole Auditorium.
