ROCKINGHAM — A woman is facing several criminal charges after allegedly breaking into an occupied home to assault an occupant.

According to warrants, 21-year-old Karea Armonie Burton, of Steele Street, broke into a home on Glenwood Avenue, which was occupied by two women and several other adults and children, after 10 p.m. July 28.

Burton is accused of assaulting one of the victims, causing a contusion on the left eye and an orbital fracture on the right eye. Warrants allege she also pushed another woman to the floor.

She was arrested and charged with one felony count of first-degree burglary, assault inflicting serious bodily injury and conspiracy; as well as one misdemeanor count of assault and battery.

She was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond but has since been released. Her court date is scheduled for Aug. 15.

As a condition of release, Burton was ordered not to assault, threaten or harass the two victims, according to court documents.

A co-conspirator was named in warrants but there is no record of charges for that individual.

Online state records show Burton has no other pending charges or prior criminal convictions in North Carolina.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
