RSHS senior swimmers recognized at MSC championship

RAEFORD — The second senior night of the Richmond Senior High School winter sports season took place Thursday.

Richmond’s boys’ and girls’ swimming teams participated in recognizing their senior swimmers during the Mid-South Conference championship meet at the Leach Aquatic Center.

Each of the conference’s teams took part in the celebration following the 200-meter freestyle relay event.

Richmond’s seniors this year were Presley Dawkins, DJ Gainey, Luke Gilliam, Austin Rainwater, Jada Scott and Cole Thrower.

Thrower swam for the Raiders all four years of his high school career, while Dawkins swam each year except her junior season.

Part of the program for two years each as juniors and seniors were Gainey, Gilliam and Scott. Joining the team for his senior year was Rainwater.

Also announced Thursday, Thrower was named the MSC’s “Male Swimmer of the Year,” which was voted on by the MSC’s head coaches. He also finished second overall in the 100-yard freestyle.

Senior Cole Thrower was named the MSC's "Male Swimmer of the Year" and also placed second overall in the 100-yard freestyle.
