GIBONSVILLE, N.C. — With the end of the high school wrestling season wrapping up last week, a local travel organization got its spring season underway over the weekend.

Real Wrestlers Real Heroes Wrestling Club, coached by Joseph Nicholson, took to the mat and competed in the Eastside 1 Showdown at Eastern Guilford High School.

Representing the program were 18 total wrestlers, 12 of whom came away with medals and a podium finish.

Several members of the Richmond Senior High School wrestling program competed and placed.

Among them were Jordan Hamilton (215-pounds) and Dylan Nunez (126-pounds), both of whom placed first overall in his respective weight class.

Jafourtae Bridges won the ninth grade tournament in the 138-pound bracket, while Seth Cox won the freshman bracket in the 220-pound weight class.

Axel Nunez, another member of the Raider wrestling program, earned second place in the 126-pound tournament. Sean Cox was third in the freshman event’s 220-pound bracket.

In the high school girls’ competition, Gabby Murillo placed first in the 114-pound event, with teammate Gabbi Geiger taking second place in the same weight class. Haylee Duncan added another second-place finish in the 138-pound bracket.

A trio of elementary or middle school wrestlers also found the podium. Josiah Holloway had the best finish with a second-place result in the elementary 145-pound event.

Trip Dunn (elementary 120-pound) placed third and Grady Bowman (middle school 126-pounds) earned fourth place.

Real Wrestlers Real Heroes, which practices Sundays at the former Ninth Grade Academy, is still looking to build its program.

Interested wrestlers can contact owner and coach Joseph Nicholson through the program’s Facebook page.
