HAMLET — Samuel Eugene “Sammy” Butler, 77, of Hamlet, passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021 at his home.

He was born in Richmond County, Nov. 21, 1943, son of the late John and Jewell Ann Taylor Butler.

Mr. Butler was a member of Maple Street Free Will Baptist Church. He loved his family and taking care of all of them. His grandbabies were his heart. He also loved hunting, hummingbirds, working in his yard, but most of all he loved his Lord and Savior.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Calvin Butler, Clyde Butler, Bill Butler, George Butler, John Butler, Charles Butler; and sister, Inez Butler.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Paulette Ewing Butler of the home; daughters, Sarah (Dave) Ferron of Hamlet, Sandy (Roger) Holt of Hamlet, and Cherrie (Eric) Johnson of Rockingham; grandchildren, Erica (PJ) Strickland, Chrissy (Matt) Covington, Tara (Jarrod) Dawkins, David (Tammy) Ferron, Kevin (Becca) Ferron, and Chris (Kelsey) Holt; great-grandchildren, Jentry and Ledger Dawkins, Harper and Sawyer Covington, Wyatt and Everleigh Holt, Lawson Strickland, and Ava Ferron.

Visitation for Mr. Butler will be Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at Maple Street Free Will Baptist Church in Rockingham.  

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Maple Street Free Will Baptist Church, with Pastor Darwin Cook and the Rev. Marvin Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Memorial Park Cemetery.
