ROCKINGHAM — This weekend will be busy for several of Richmond Senior High School’s spring sports teams.
With the regular season quickly approaching, three programs will take to their respective fields for a series of scrimmages Saturday – baseball, softball and girls’ soccer.
Baseball hosting West Stanly
The only team of the three in action this weekend with a home event, the Raider baseball team and third-year head coach Eric Brown will host West Stanly High School Saturday.
Richmond and the Colts will begin scrimmaging at 1 p.m. at Raider Field. The scrimmage will follow live rules and action, and like previous pre-season scrimmages, may last longer than seven innings.
The Raiders’ season opener is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 25 at home against non-conference Lee County High School.
Softball traveling to Southern Alamance
Similarly, the Lady Raider softball team and second-year head coach Caroline Wilson will play their weekend scrimmage at Southern Alamance High School.
The scrimmage will begin at 12 p.m. in Graham, N.C. The Lady Raiders’ season opener is also planned for Wednesday, Feb. 25 at home with non-conference Union Pines High School.
Girls’ soccer set for scrimmages at West Cabarrus
Also hitting the road Saturday, the Lady Raider soccer team and eighth-year head coach Chris Larsen will play in a series of scrimmages.
Getting an earlier start, the Lady Raiders will travel to West Cabarrus High School for the Wolverine Warmup Jamboree. Richmond will play 35-minute scrimmages against four different opponents.
Richmond will start with North Mecklenburg High School at 10:05 a.m., followed by Rocky River High School (10:50 a.m.), North Mecklenburg again at 12:20 p.m. and conclude with A.L. Brown High School at 1:05 p.m.
The Lady Raiders’ season will begin Wednesday, Feb. 25 at non-conference Porter Ridge High School.
