Raider hoops traveling to Southern Lee

Head coach Donald Pettigrew and the Richmond boys’ basketball team will travel to new conference opponent Southern Lee High School on Saturday.

The Raiders will play three scrimmages against non-conference opponents — St. Pauls, South View and Westover high schools. Scrimmages will begin at 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Richmond has a lot of hype around it this season, starting with sophomore Paul McNeil, who already has seven offers, six of which are for Division I programs.

Lady Raiders set for Terry Sanford

Richmond’s girls’ team will also travel on Saturday, playing in a pair of scrimmages at Terry Sanford High School.

The Lady Raiders and head coach Teddy Moseley will open with Douglas Byrd High School at 10 a.m., followed by a matchup against Hoggard High School at noon.

The Richmond Observer will publish full season previews for both squads in the coming weeks.

Wrestlers geared up for outdoor event

First-year head coach Andre’ Ellerbe and the Richmond wrestling team will compete in the Academy Sports Rumble Under the Lights event on Saturday.

The outdoor preseason tournament will be held at Corvian Community High School in Charlotte and feature over 20 teams from across the state.
