WADESBORO — A search is on the way for a wanted man accused of running from law enforcement early Monday morning.
According to the Anson County Sheriff’s Office, a Flock Safety camera alerted to a vehicle occupied by Scotty Roy Hills, of Wadesboro, the morning of Sept. 8, which led to a chase with the Rockingham Police Department.
Investigators say Hill is wanted, but did not specify on what charges. However, online court records show an order for arrest was issued on Sept. 2 when he failed to appear in court Aug. 25 after being indicted July 2 on a charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, for which he was initially charged in March.
The chase crossed the Pee Dee River into Anson County, where the ASCO reportedly deployed stop sticks to disable the vehicle on U.S. 74 near Harrington Road between Lilesville and Wadesboro.
Hills reportedly got out of the vehicle and ran into a wooded area, allegedly firing shots at the officers in pursuit. The officers eventually lost sight of the suspect.
ASCO is being assisted in the search by RPD, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Polkton Police Department and the N.C. State Highway Patrol Aviation Unit, according to a social media post.
Investigators say Hills is expected to be armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to call the Anson County Sheriff’s Office at 704-694-4188 or 911.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
