SPRING LAKE — The Richmond Senior High School girls’ golf team played its second match of the season Monday and improved overall as a group.

Playing its second of three nine-hole contests to start the season, the Lady Raiders finished the round with a team score of 175 and placed third out of the four qualifying teams.

Five Mid-South Conference teams participated in the event held at Anderson Creek Golf Club, a new course added to Richmond’s schedule. The field was led by Pinecrest High School, which finished with a team score of 114.

Taking second place was Jack Britt High School (160), followed by Richmond and Overhills High School (183). Pine Forest had one golfer in action and didn’t have the minimum of three golfers required for the team score.

Richmond’s top three golfers Monday who contributed to the final score were sophomores Talley Webb, Kennedy Baldwin and Bayden Bendell.

Richmond’s final score at Anderson Creek was a season-low, five strokes fewer than the team’s first outing of the season last week at Pinehurst No. 6.

“The girls played well and everyone showed improvement in some aspect of her game,” head coach Kevin Wallace said. “I’m proud of the growth we are making as a team and I’m excited to see how the rest of the season goes.”

Webb looked more like herself in Week 2, improving her overall score by six strokes. She finished the day with a team-leading score of 52.

Baldwin, playing her first season of high school golf, also improved by taking one shot off the scorecard. Her round score was a 60.

Bendell and freshman Cadence McIver both posted scores of 63, which were up one and two shots, respectively, from the first match of the season.

Leading the field was Ashley Lee from Pinecrest, who ended her round with a 36.

The Lady Raiders will play their final nine-hole match of the season next Monday before starting full rounds.

Hosted by Pine Forest High School, the Lady Raiders will play at Kings Grant Golf and Country Club starting at 3 p.m.
