RAEFORD — The Richmond Senior High School girls’ track and field team showed off its skills during an invitational meet over the weekend.
Richmond competed in the 6th annual Kathy McMillan Invitational hosted by Hoke County High School Saturday. One of 20 teams competing, the Lady Raiders placed second overall.
The Lady Raiders recorded 73 points, second only to the invitational winner Pine Forest High School, which had 97 points.
Richmond had a total of 11 top-five finishes, including three by junior jumper Ka’mora Watkins. Senior hurdler Anayjah Dumas had the lone event victory for the Lady Raiders.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Dumas paced the field with a final time of 18.70 seconds. She was well ahead of second-place finisher Jayden Hoffman of Heide Trask High School (18.97 seconds).
Watkins had a pair of second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump, and added a fourth-place height in the high jump.
Leaping to a final mark of 16’-2.5” in the long jump, Watkins was just 3.5 inches behind winner Angel Scott of Scotland High School. Similarly in the triple jump, Watkins’ mark of 32’-6” was the same distance off the winning mark by Maliyah Moton (Pine Forest).
Rounding out her big day in the field, Watkins cleared the bar at 4’-4” to take fourth overall in the high jump.
Richmond’s only third-place finish went to sophomore Tanaja Harrison in the triple jump. Her distance was 30’-8.5”.
Placing fourth were the 4x100-meter relay team (52.19 seconds), the 800-meter sprint medley relay team (2:14.27) and freshman Chrislynn Culley in the 100-meter hurdles (19.56 seconds).
Other top-five finishers included Dumas in the long jump (14’-3”), senior Amariah Gibson in the 200-meter dash (26.70 seconds) and freshman Glenisha Thomas in the shot put (32’-5”).
The Lady Raiders will travel to Hoke County High School Thursday for a Sandhills Athletic Conference meet. Events will start at 5 p.m.
