ROCKINGHAM — A second suspect in a shooting last month has been apprehended.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that 19-year-old Jishen Shyheim Dumas of Laurel Hill turned himself in to deputies on Wednesday, June 30.
Records show Dumas was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 9:06 p.m. on charges of attempted first-degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling or vehicle. He is being held under a $1 million secured bond.
According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy was flagged down around 5:40 p.m. Friday, June 18 at Henna Corner, at the intersection of Mill Road and Long Drive in East Rockingham.
The deputy soon discovered that a shooting had just happened in the parking lot and that one person was injured, according to investigators. The victim was treated and released at a local hospital.
A white car was loaded onto a rollback and several evidence markers were seen in the parking lot.
Dumas and 23-year-old Shaquan Hykeem Chambers are charged in the shooting.
Chambers, who turned himself in June 28, is charged with one count each of attempted first-degree murder, going armed to the terror of the public and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, and is also being held on a $1 million secured bond.
The case is still under investigation and deputies are still working to identify a third person in the vehicle.
Anyone with information on that suspect is encouraged to call 911 or Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.
Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety show Chambers was convicted in 2015 of misdemeanor larceny in Wake County.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
