ROCKINGHAM — The second suspect in a convenience store robbery earlier this month is now in custody.
Richmond County Jail records show 22-year-old Gabriel Jamihr Bracey, of Rockingham, was booked at 6:16 a.m. Feb. 18 on the following charges: robbery with a dangerous weapon; possession of a stolen firearm; attempted felony larceny; assault by pointing a gun; and possession of a firearm by a felon.
He is being held on a $500,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court March 7.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Bracey and 20-year-old Jordan Leon Tyson, also of Rockingham, robbed the Shell station at the intersection of U.S. 220 and Billy Covington Road on Sept. 2.
The two also allegedly tried to steal the clerk’s car.
Investigators say shots were fired during the incident and when deputies arrived, Bracey was found behind the store with gunshot wounds.
Bracey was reportedly taken to a hospital in South Carolina and left after treatment.
Tyson reportedly fled the scene, but was arrested Feb. 16 and charged with: robbery with a dangerous weapon; possession of a stolen firearm; attempted felony larceny; and assault by pointing a gun. He is also being held on a $500,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court March 7.
Investigators say Bracey turned himself over to law enforcement in Anson County on Feb. 17.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Bracey was convicted in 2017 on eight counts of misdemeanor larceny and one count each of assault on a handicapped person, breaking and entering and damage to property in Union County.
The following year, Bracey was convicted of common law robbery and felony conspiracy in Anson County. His probation was revoked and he spent nearly eight months in prison. Bracey’s parole ended on Dec. 15, 2023.
Tyson has several pending traffic citations, but no other pending criminal charges or prior convictions, according to online state records.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
