ROCKINGHAM — Another convicted sex offender is accused of not reporting a new address in two counties.
Richmond County Jail records show 34-year-old Brian Teyon Covington was booked July 11, charged with two counts of failing to report an address change as a sex offender — one in Richmond County, the other in Cumberland County.
Covington is also charged with being a habitual felon in Cumberland County.
Online court records show the Cumberland County charges are from 2021 and the Richmond County charge is from 2018.
According to the N.C. Sex Offender Registry, Covington was convicted in 2009 on two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child in Hoke County.
Records show Covington was 17 years old at the time and the victim was 13.
(Note: The incident dates differ between the Sex Offender Registry and the N.C. Department of Adult Correction.)
Covington was initially given probation, which was revoked in Moore County eight months after his conviction when he was convicted of failing to report an address change, landing him behind bars for 17 months.
He was again convicted in 2013 of failing to report an address change in Moore County, leading to a 13-month incarceration.
Covington is being held on a combined $55,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 22 on the Cumberland County charges and Aug. 19.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
