LAURINBURG — Starting a three-game week ahead of spring break Monday, the Richmond Senior High School softball team wasn’t able to defeat a former conference foe.

The Lady Raiders traveled to rival Scotland High School and lost 11-0 in five innings.

Scotland scored two runs in the first, three runs in the second inning, a solo run in the third and used a five-run fourth inning to implement the mercy rule.

Three Lady Raiders pitched in the game, starting with sophomore Mackenzie Quick. She pitched 1.2 innings and allowed five earned runs on four hits.

Richmond’s first relief pitcher was freshman Claire Clark, who surrendered six runs (four earned) on seven hits in 2.0 innings. Junior Emma Rusich recorded the final third-of an inning.

Held scoreless, Richmond had four hits in the loss. Quick, Clark, senior Kinsie Lyerly and junior Madeline Carriker each connected for a base hit.

The Lady Raiders (3-8, 1-1 Mid-South Conference) will play twice more over the next three days.

Richmond will face Jack Britt High School (1-11, 1-1 MSC) Tuesday on the road and Thursday at home for a two-game conference series. Both games will start at 6:30 p.m.

Sports editor’s note: The Richmond junior varsity softball team (7-1, 2-0 MSC) didn’t play Monday and will play at Jack Britt Tuesday (5 p.m.).
