Shutout loss for Lady Raiders against Jack Britt

Richmond still seeking first MSC win

ROCKINGHAM — Looking for its first Mid-South Conference win of the season and trying to even a season series Tuesday, the Richmond Senior High School girls’ soccer team came up just short.

One of three varsity games happening on campus, the Lady Raiders suffered a 3-0 loss to visiting Jack Britt High School.

The loss, which followed an eight-goal win Monday, saw Richmond swept in the two-game season series by the Lady Buccaneers.

Jack Britt scored its first goal in the first half, finding the net on a close-range shot in the opening three minutes.

A physical contest, similar to the first match, saw both teams battle for possession for much of the 80 minutes.

After allowing the early goal, junior goalkeeper Kenley Smith made several saves to give the offense a chance.

The Lady Raiders nearly tied the match on a pair of free kicks taken by freshman Alley Crouch and senior Jentry Denson in the closing 10 minutes.

Jack Britt netted its second goal with 1:35 left in regulation and added its final goal at the 58-second mark.

Richmond (4-10-2, 0-6-1 MSC)  is set to travel to Hoke County High School (7-5-4, 0-3-3 MSC) Friday for another conference contest. The match will begin at 7 p.m.

JV Lady Raiders let early lead go

The JV Lady Raider soccer team let a first-half lead go in Tuesday’s home match.

Also hosting Jack Britt, Richmond suffered a 2-1 loss to the JV Lady Bucs.

Sophomore Yicel Lopez scored for the JV Lady Raiders in the first half to make it 1-0.

Jack Britt scored both of its goals in the closing 35 minutes.

Head coach Bennie Howard said, “We outshot them and outplayed them, but we just didn’t outscore them.”

The JV Lady Raiders (6-5, 3-4 MSC) will travel to Hoke County Friday and start at 5 p.m.
