Morgan and Parsons played in the NCCA East-West All-Star game in December. During the same week, Simpson played for team North Carolina in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
ROCKINGHAM — Smiles, laughs and stories filled the Richmond Senior High School media center Tuesday afternoon.
The cause for celebration was to recognize a trio of senior football players that held a college signing day.
While their official paperwork had already been submitted, seniors K’Mauri Morgan, Joe Parsons and Tate Simpson took time to celebrate their future playing careers at the college level.
The first of the three to verbally commit, Simpson announced he was going to UNC Pembroke in late January. Morgan followed a week later with his verbal commitment to Fayetteville State University.
Parsons became the most recent to share his future plans, choosing an offer from Wingate University this past week. All three schools are Division II football programs.
Morgan will play linebacker for the Broncos, while Simpson will continue his role along the defensive line for the Braves. Parsons, a linebacker for Richmond, will make the shift to the d-line for the Bulldogs.
Head coach Brad Denson opened by recognizing each of the senior players and his respective contributions to the program.
Some of his notes included Morgan recording almost 150 tackles during his senior season, Parsons’ more than 300 career total tackles and a quarter of Simpson’s career tackles going for a loss.
Denson also emphasized the importance of being a student-athlete, adding that all three Raiders received academic scholarship money.
Each player had an opportunity to address the media center filled with dozens of classmates, teachers, teammates, family members and friends before posing for pictures.
