ROCKINGHAM — A Silver Alert has been issued for a man believed to have taken a wrong exit while driving through Richmond County.
According to the alert, posted by the N.C. Center for Missing Persons, 76-year-old James Ingram Mullis and the unnamed “reporting person” were “following each other” while traveling from Wilmington to Charlotte.
The reporting person, according to the alert, lost sight of Mullins and believes he took the wrong exit on U.S. 74 and was heading toward Asheboro.
The alert states that the reporting person went to Mullins’ home in Charlotte, but Mullins never returned.
The alert does not include an incident date, but was issued at 4:23 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Mullins, “who is believed to be suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's,” is a white male who stands 6 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs around 300 pounds, according to the alert. He has short gray hair and blue eyes and was reportedly last seen wearing a blue shirt, dark jogger-style pants, with one white shoe and a medical boot.
According to the alert, Mullins was driving a gray or silver 2019 Dodge Caravan with the North Carolina license plate number KDB4416. The van reportedly has a broken back passenger-side brake light and damage to the passenger-side back bumper.
